Mont Saint Michel is a fortress built into a rock island in Normandy, France. It was discovered by an Irish hermit hundreds of years ago. People built a town on the island and over many many years, they expanded to make it the astonishing tourist attraction it is today. Mont Saint Michel holds a village, an abbey, a church, and more. The island, at one point, acted as a jail as well. The fortress also has an outstanding, unobstructed, 360-degree view. You can see for tens of kilometers in all directions. One of the most iconic parts of the island is its large spire. On the tip of the spire is a bronze statue of Saint Michael.
When we were on our way there, we stopped at a few places across the bay from Mont Saint Michel. These views were absolutely amazing. You had a clear view of the island, from afar. There are no words to describe it. Once we got to a parking lot, we got on a bus that was going to take us there. On our way there, I realized how big it actually was. When we entered, we walked up the long street, passing by restaurants and shops along the way. When got to the end of the street and climbed a lot of stairs, we decided to take the tour through the upper rooms of the mountain. We walked through its big, beautiful, and elaborate rooms. They had amazing stone pillars in them. When you walked outside you could see for kilometers in all directions. At the top, we entered the gorgeous church that had super high ceilings and stained glass windows. It was amazing. When we finished, we took a horse and carriage back to our car.
